“If you want to be a good leader, you have to love the people. You have to be willing to speak with a strong voice about what they need and want, and you have to do so with courage. You have to strive to understand what they are trying to tell you so you can be their voice… You must understand that you can only lead from the front and not from the rear.” — The Late Honourable Murray Sinclair, C.C., O.M., M.S.C.
Why Ideas Matter More (and are Much Harder) Than Promises
As Chief, I would be one of thirteen voices on Council. No single person can — or should — make promises alone. Real progress comes from teamwork, respectful debate, and building consensus. That’s why I don’t make promises I can’t keep. Instead, I bring forward ideas grounded in vision, practicality, and what moves Siksika forward.
My role is to advocate strongly for the ideas and values I believe in while listening with openness to the ideas of others. The best solutions for our Nation come when we build upon one another’s perspectives.
Here is what I can promise you:
I will listen to your ideas and concerns, ensuring your voice is heard at the Council table.
I will act ethically and with integrity, always considering what serves the best interests of the Nation as a whole — not just one group or individual.
I will communicate honestly and openly, keeping you informed about what Council is doing for the Nation.
We may not always agree — disagreement is a natural part of governance. You may not support every decision we make, and that’s okay. What matters most is that you can trust I have approached each decision with thought, care, and reflection — guided by ethics, grounded values, and a steadfast commitment to what is best for Siksika.
