Sam Crowfoot for Chief of the Siksika Nation

Oki Siksika,

Kitohkanaiksimatsimmohpowaawa. Niisto annakaok, Siipiinaomahka. Nitomohto’to Siksika.

My name is Samuel Crowfoot. My parents are Strater and Ellen Crowfoot. My paternal grandparents are Cecil Crowfoot and Francis (Muriel) O’ Soup of the Key Reserve, and my great-grandparents are Joseph Crowfoot and Maggie Spotted Eagle. On my mother’s side, my grandparents are Phillip Cook and Arvilla Summers of the Mohawk and Oneida Nations.

I was raised here on Siksika, attending school from Pre-K through high school. My academic journey took me beyond our territory, but my roots have always remained at home. I hold an Associate of Science, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) where I studied on academic scholarship and specialized in trial advocacy and Indigenous law.

Throughout my career, I have worked with Indigenous communities. In each role, I’ve focused on protecting family integrity, advancing sovereignty, and creating space for restorative justice — helping our people heal and thrive within systems shaped by our own values.

My connection to our culture continues to guide every part of who I am. I have worked to deepen that connection by learning our language, acquiring a tipi, and understanding protocols and responsibilities that come with tipi ownership. I carry the names Spotted Eagle, given by the late Eve Yellow Old Woman, and Night Runner, given by my father, Chief Strater Crowfoot.

It is with deep respect and commitment that I offer my name to serve as Chief. My purpose has always been to protect, to listen, and to lead in a way that honors those who came before us and ensures a strong, self-determined future for those yet to come.
