Public Health and Safety

We are serious about establishing our sovereignty and about keeping our communities safe. During my time on Council, we have made important progress:
- Established a Peace Officer Program
- Re-created our Police Commission
- Made significant progress in our Police Force Application.
- Created one of Canada’s first, First Nation By-Law Prosecutor’s Office
- Brought about an on-reserve In-patient Rehabilitative Treatment facility.
- Broke ground for an Animal Control Services building.
- Passed and developed bylaws that protect the Nation.
Our Prosecutor’s Office is already enforcing Nation laws in provincial court, including trespassing bylaws against non-members who unlawfully enter our lands.
As new bylaws and services expand, our Peace Officers will continue strengthening community safety and accountability.
Re-establishing our own Police Service is crucial to keeping our people safe and completing our Police Application will be a priority.
Public Health also means making access to health services for Nation members easier and looking to re-establish our Hospital on Siksika.
